Now in this article, I’ll be showing you 3 types of keywords that work wonders in bringing traffic to a website, but that’s not all- I will also guide you through three tools that can help you do keyword targeting, competitor analysis, and referral marketing which could all be helpful in bringing more traffic to your website.

Keywords

One of the basics of SEO is that you have to put in keywords in every place that you can, like in your title, headers, meta descriptions, and the body without keyword stuffing. This is done to let the search engine know what your site and pages are all about. It’s also to assure them that your page is really related to the keywords that users would search. When SEO was still new, a lot of website owners took an advantage of keywords by keyword stuffing and including broad keywords all over their website. Finally, search engines have become smarter! Today, keyword stuffing is a big NO-NO, instead content is important and users get what they are searching for because they are given better results. But did you know that aside from the regular keywords we know there are also other types?

LONG-TAIL KEYWORDS

Go ahead and think of all the words as well as the phrases that could describe your website, I’m guessing you’re going for words that are like “cars” when you’re a car dealership website. Now for broad and very common words like that, do you think it actually works trying to rank for? Remember there are a lot of people who have probably ranked for that and competition might be too tough. Are you sure you can find a way to direct more people to your site? No really, right? Don’t worry because it’s not the end of the world, this is where long-tail keywords come in.

For car dealership websites, you could go for long-tail keywords like “used car dealership”. Yes, compared to the keyword “CARS” there are a lot less people who would be searching that but you’ll be having less competition too. Broad keywords could be too broad, a user could be searching for something not related to your website. So when you focus on a longer more detailed keyword, when people search that you have more chance to be what they are searching for.

LOCATION-BASED KEYWORDS

Now that we’ve talked about keywords that has more details about what you offer, we have keywords that are location-based. Of course, unless you tell search engines, including Google about your location they wouldn’t know. So if you want your website to be shown when users search in a particular area, make sure that you include a city and region name for your keywords.

If your location is in New York, you would definitely want to include a long-tail keyword that has your location. “Used car dealership in New York” is a more targeted keyword that could bring you more traffic and conversions.

Keyword Targeting with SPYFU

With SpyFu there’s a lot of things that you can do in just one click. As seen in the picture below, all you have to do is “enter a competitor”. For this example I used www.shoecarnival.com.

Once I clicked on the search I was given a lot of analysis. I get to see the organic SEO, Inbound clicks from Google, Organic vs Paid, and a lot more.

But that’s just what you can see from the domain overview. There’s a lot more.

On the left side of the screen you can click on different parts of the analysis that you want to go straight to like the domain overview, competition, shred keyword, top keywords, AdWords Advisor, AdWords history, Ranking History, and Inbound links. For example, when you click on competition, you see data similar to the one on the image below:

Competitor Analysis with ahrefs

In this industry, traffic is a very important thing and knowing who your competitor is one way to assess why you aren’t bringing more traffic to your website. Sometime when you’re using keywords you aren’t even battling against the same niche, sometimes it’s a whole different niche but you just happen to use the same keywords because it’s both related to your content.

Let’s get started

After logging in all you have to do is search whichever keyword you’ve decided to use on the search bar.

Once ahrefs shows you the data, go down to SERP overview.

As you can see in the picture above there are a lot of data being shown in that area. But what you want to watch out for is the AR. When an AR is less than a 100K it means Google trusts them more because they are larger companies that are actually found nationwide already. Usually, they rank based on only their on-page factors because they are already trusted sites.

On your left, look for backlinks and then New.

Now you can see the total links they get. But you can also check the links they get per domain by clicking on “One link per domain”.

So there, basically competition research could be done very easily with ahrefs but that’s not the only thing they offer because they are also an all-in-one SEO tool.

Referral Marketing with OMNISTAR

When you use referral marketing more people that are more highly expected to convert will go to your website. It’s a way to let the targeted audience know that your website and products exist for people who have already purchased from you.

Let’s get started, basically, Omnistar has a lot of different plans available.

Setting up is also not difficult, from the left side of your screen just click on set up and then create? Edit referral program from the middle of your screen.

Next, Just click on +Add to add a new campaign.

Next step is where type in all the relevant details like your program name, a description and the type of program.

Next step, you can pick what will happen when a user clicks on the referral link, should it go to your store or would a coupon appear.

Once you’re done a green note stating “Referral program added successfully” would appear on the right corner and you’ll be able to see other campaigns (If there are any).
